About Us

Leadership Teacher is the creation of Lyn Fiscus, a former leadership teacher, student activities advisor, and editor of Leadership for Student Activities magazine. She currently manages Leadership Logistics, a company she founded in 2004, which provides writing, editing, training, and consulting services to support positive youth development.

Lyn is well recognized for her work in student activities. She taught at the high school level in the St. Louis area for 12 years -- 10 of those years with a leadership class -- and worked with a variety of student groups including student council, yearbook, newspaper, SADD, TREND, pep club, cheerleaders, and American Youth Foundation (AYF) Leadership Compact. She served as assistant director of the Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC) summer leadership workshop, represented the St. Louis area on the MASC Executive Board for six years, and served on staff of NASSP's National Leadership Camps, eventually becoming co-director of the NLC in New York. In addition, she served as a staff member of AYF's International Leadership Camp for four years, is a former executive board member of the National Association of Student Activity Advisers, and is a frequent presenter at student activities conferences.

Editor from 1995-2007 of the award-winning Leadership for Student Activities, published for student council and National Honor Society advisers by NASSP, Lyn also served as editor of Dimensions magazine, published by DECA from 2006–2009, and as editorial consultant for Teen Times magazine, published by Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), from 2005-2010.  She has also worked with the Technology Student Association (TSA), SkillsUSA, National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS), Herff Jones, Inc., National Middle School Association (NMSA), the Texas Association of Student Councils, the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils, the Indiana Association of Student Councils, and the Oregon Association of Student Councils.

Lyn is the author of Adviser Essentials: Project Planning (2010), Adviser’s Guide to Student Activities (2004), and Who Says You Can’t Change the World (1991). She served as editor/writer of the National Leadership Camp Leadership Curriculum Guide (1994), and is co-author of The Bucks $tart Here: Fundraising for Student Activities (2007).  She has been instrumental in the founding of the Alliance for Student Activities, a nonprofit association to promote the value of student activities, and she serves as its vice president.

Lyn is the national recipient of the 2005 Earl Reum Award, given by the National Association of Workshop Directors (NAWD) in recognition of outstanding leadership and commitment to the promotion of excellence in student activities.

A Word about Ads

This site is a labor of love, built in my "spare" time. I've chosen to place ads on the site with the thought that if I can generate some income through this I'll be able to devote more time to building it into a great community for leadership teachers. I hope you'll check out the offerings of the advertisers and make use of them if you find them relevant and worthwhile.
